Arts and cultural activities are an important part of community life. Singing, dancing, sewing, quilting—these pursuits put us in touch with our own identities. Participating in these activities with others creates social bonds and builds a strong sense of community. In this component of the 2012 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the museum shared highlights of the creativity and cultural expression found in schools, churches, community organizations, and businesses in Washington, D.C.’s wards 7 and 8.
